Ms. Welter is a native of the Rio Grande Valley and graduated as a proud Rattler from Rio Grande City High School in 1999.  She then graduated from Wellesley College in 2003 with a degree in History and the University of Texas School of Law in 2006.  She has obtained substantial experience in federal court as a judicial intern to the Honorable Andrew Hanen for the Southern District of Texas—Brownsville Division.  Upon graduation from law school, Ms. Welter served as a federal law clerk to the Honorable Randy Crane also of the Southern District of Texas—McAllen Division.  Ms. Welter is admitted to practice in all federal district courts in Texas.  She has participated as counsel in both state and federal court trials and has experience throughout the litigation process.  She has extensive experience with the Texas Public Information Act after serving as an attorney for the University of Texas System Administration.  Ms. Welter has particular experience in media law and defamation claims having represented television stations and other media outlets.  Ms. Welter is a recipient of the Texas Civil Rights Project’s Kristi Couvillon Pro Bono Award, which is awarded yearly to attorneys who have handled significant cases for the Project.
