Leslie McCollom represents Texas public school districts, and other clients in matters of labor and employment law and other types of civil litigation. She is Certified in Labor and Employment Law, and in Civil Appellate Law, by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. She handles both administrative and judicial litigation matters, including most areas of public school law and labor and employment law. She has litigated many cases involving school district personnel, parents, students, and school districts before the Texas Commissioner of Education and Special Education Hearing Officers appointed by the Commissioner of Education to hear due process hearings, and contested cases involving suits by the Texas State Board for Educator Certification to sanction certified educators, since she left her former position as an Assistant Texas Attorney General in 1995. She has litigated in Texas state and federal courts throughout Texas since she was admitted to practice in 1980, and has handled many appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and most of the Texas Courts of Appeals. She served as an Assistant Texas Attorney General about eight years, primarily defending Texas state agencies or Texas state employees in suits brought in state or federal courts regarding education and labor and employment matters.
Leslie attended the University of Texas School of Law, and graduated with honors in 1980, and was admitted to the Texas State Bar that same year. She attended Rice University, where she obtained a Master’s degree in Behavioral Science in 1975, and a B.A. degree in linguistics and anthropology in 1972. In addition to her private law practice since 1995, she has frequently served as a judge for student mock trial and appellate advocacy competitions at the University of Texas School of Law.
