Associate

Kaylie Morgan is committed to being an effective voice for her clients. Her passion for advocating and seeking justice has resulted in multiple recognitions and victories in courtrooms throughout Texas. Kaylie’s legal prowess is evident not only in court but also in her zealous representation of governmental entities.

Ms. Morgan obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science with cum laude distinction from Texas A&M University, College Station. Thereafter, she earned her Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s University School of Law, where she also graduated with cum laude distinction. During Law School, Kaylie was awarded several honors for her academic achievements. She was inducted into the prestigious John M. Harlan Society, an honor reserved for the top 10% of the graduating law class, and was a recipient of the St. Mary’s Presidential Award, which is presented to students who exemplify leadership, service, academic excellence and who possess the knowledge and skills to be an effective leader. Additionally, she served as a student defense attorney for the St. Mary’s Criminal Justice Clinic during her third year of law school, where she represented indigent individuals accused of misdemeanors and felonies in Bexar County. Notably, Kaylie partnered with the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office Conviction Integrity Unit to seek justice for a female client whom they believed failed to receive appropriate representation from an unethical attorney. Because of her efforts, Kaylie’s client was the first post-conviction writ application granted, and her client’s case was ultimately dismissed.

Ms. Morgan’s practice focuses on criminal and education law. Her criminal practice particularly focuses on juvenile and adult criminal defense as well as appellate and post-conviction matters ranging from capital murder, sexual assaults, and white-collar crimes. She also serves as board counsel to Boards of Trustees throughout Texas and handles Human Resources and student issues on behalf of various district administrations. She is a frequent speaker and conducts individualized on-site training across the state, informing clients of policies, laws, and governance best practices.

Before joining ODC, Kaylie was an associate attorney at a nationally recognized criminal defense firm in San Antonio. Kaylie also worked as an attorney intern for USAA’s Chief Legal Office, assisting in legal research and writing in USAA’s lines of businesses, including enterprise litigation, cybersecurity, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and government relations.

Kaylie is licensed to practice in all Texas Courts, Federal District Courts for the Western, Northern, Southern, and Eastern Districts of Texas, as well as the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

In 2024, Kaylie was named one of San Antonio’s Rising Star Lawyers, Outstanding Women in Law, and Best Lawyers for Appellate Law, Criminal Defense, and Criminal Defense: White Collar.
